C&A
Creativity & Aesthetics
"To achieve change, designers are creative and inquisitive as the act of designing is a constant process of dealing with a lack of information. They can generate, select and refine ideas by using a variety of creativity techniques and by changing perspectives. Designers make use of physical and interactive materiality and have a critical attitude towards their aesthetic quality (good for the sake of good), demonstrated in quality of form, interaction, etc. They trust their senses and find a balance between intuition and knowledge-driven design."
My development
Creativity and aesthetics are both intertwined in my workflow as well as the products and ideas I produce. In fact, as design is a process of dealing with a lack of information, I have adopted a variety of creative techniques to conquer this. The main method, being the iterative design process, has shown its value and changed my perspective from a hesitant perfectionist at the start of my bachelor's to a decisive designer, now viewing decisions as a tool to gather knowledge and reflect rather than a definitive step. Furthermore, recognizing the creativity in my own identity, using tangibility and visualization for the generation and communication of ideas, a reflection on this approach has fuelled my vision and interest in the design for playful learning. Employing the value of creativity and aesthetics for the communication of ideas to stakeholders has also led to realizing the close connection between creative and entrepreneurship design aspects.

In addition, courses like Aesthetics of Interaction, have prompted me to explore my personal aesthetics and realize that aesthetics should not solely be considered a form of beauty, but also a tool to inform the user of functionality. This storytelling value of aesthetics has also been explored in the Clarks design case, aiming to convey a touch of Eindhoven through the use of subtle wearable aesthetics. Additionally, Exploratory Making and Sketching both gave rise to how quick exploratory iterations can enhance efficiency and be used as a tool to inform future steps. In contrast to rapid prototyping and generating ideas, a board year at student Team IGNTIE has also triggered the exploration and use of high-fidelity prototyping methods like laser cutting. In terms of professional visualizations, joining the UNID committee and doing an internship have kickstarted the advancement in professional tools like Adobe to enhance the communication of ideas. Moving forward, I plan to specialize my knowledge in aesthetics for play, aligning with my vision and goals.
